#151: Start Trek VI The undiscovered country, Movies recommended or seen lately... les films a voir

Genre: Sci-Fi/Science-Fiction

Annee/Year: 1991

Format: Blu-Ray

Star Trek VI remains as one of the best Start Trek movie with the original crew. This movie takes setting on how two countries/worlds approach peace when they have been fighting war for so long. In an environment where trust is non-existent and peace supporters are few and get thrown off my the parties who have nothing to gain from peace. This takes a meaning that transcends the normal Star-Trek premises. Under the direction of Nicholas Meyer (who also directer Star Trek II) the movie brings us the failiar captain Kirk, as one of the major fighters against the Klingons; he is put in a situation where he needs to defend the peace process between the fedaration and the Klingons. With a beautiful cinematography and solid special effects this movie will remain with The Wraft of Khan as the best from the Star-Trek franchise stories; at least with the first generation crew. What a team the Kirk, Spoc, Scotty, Bones, Sulu make. Almost as good as the team of Shatner, Nemoy, Kelley, Doohan, Takei & Nichols. The disc (blu-ray version at least) includes a beautiful tribute to DeForest Kelley who passed away in 1999. Special note for Christopher Plummer as Klingon admiral Chang. If you ever watch just one movie from this franchise this should be the one.

Great quotes:
[Dictating his personal log] Captain James T. Kirk: Captain's log, stardate 9522.6: I've never trusted Klingons, and I never will. I could never forgive them for the death of my boy. It seems to me our mission to escort the Chancellor of the Klingon High Council to a peace summit is problematic at best. Spock says this could be an historic occasion, and I'd like to believe him, but how on earth can history get past people like me?
...
Captain James T. Kirk: Bones, are you afraid of the future?
Commander Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, M.D.: I believe that was the general idea that I was trying to convey.
Captain James T. Kirk: I don't mean this future.
Commander Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, M.D.: What is this, multiple choice?
...

Chancellor Gorkon: You don't trust me, do you? I don't blame you. If there is to be a brave new world, our generation is going to have the hardest time living in it.
...
Captain Spock: There is an old Vulcan proverb: only Nixon could go to China.
